While deciding whether or not to start that big home remodeling project, we think about many things – cost, time frame, design, etc. But we often forget about the well-being of our pets during home renovations.

Meet Gus. Although he enjoyed most of the construction of his family’s new kitchen in San Francisco’s Lake District, this is not always the case. Noise, dust, smells, open doors and windows, and a lot of new faces are just a few things our pets need help navigating during a remodel.

One way to prepare pets for your kitchen remodel is to move their food and water out of the kitchen and away from construction traffic. Move their bowls before construction starts, and get them in a habit of eating elsewhere at least 10 days before the renovation begins.

Keep a pet carrier on hand, as these can protect your pets as well as give them a safe place to hide.
